국내 대표 싱어송라이터, 이적

이적은 1995년 패닉으로 데뷔하며 지금까지 대중들 앞에 다양한 장르의 음악을 표현해왔다. ‘거짓말 거짓말 거짓말’ 등의 감성적인 발라드부터 ‘하늘을 달리다’, ‘UFO’와 같이 록 사운드의 반전을 지닌 매력적인 음악을 자유자재로 소화하며 남녀노소를 막론한 큰 사랑을 받아왔다. 특히 2008년에는 ‘다행이다’로 한국대중음악상 4관왕에 오르며, 최고의 싱어송라이터로 자리잡았다.

이미 잘 알려져 있듯 이적은 솔로활동뿐 아니라 다채로운 활동으로 음악적 영역을 넓혀 왔다. 1995년에는 김진표와 함께 본인이 직접 프로듀싱한 패닉 1집 <Panic>을 발표하며 실험성과 완성도를 겸비했다는 평을 받았으며, 수록곡 ‘달팽이’, ‘왼손잡이’는 당시 사회적으로 큰 이슈를 만들어 내기도 했다. 이후 발표되었던 패닉의 두 번째 앨범<밑> 또한 90년대를 대표하는 강렬한 명반으로 손꼽힌다. 1997년, 김동률과 함께 결성한 그룹 카니발 1집 <Carnival>에서는 김동률의 클래식한 분위기에 이적 특유의 실험적인 느낌이 잘 어우러진 음악들을 발표하였다. 전람회와 패닉에서는 들을 수 없었던 ‘그땐 그랬지’, ‘거위의 꿈’과 같은 대표곡들이 현재까지도 오래도록 대중들에게 회자되고 있다. 뿐만 아니라, MBC TV 프로그램 무한도전 – 서해안 가요제에서는 유재석과 함께 ‘압구정 날라리’, ‘말하는 대로’를 대히트 시켰고, 시트콤 ‘하이킥: 짧은 다리의 역습’에서는 음악 감독까지 소화하며 멈출 줄 모르는 행보를 거듭해왔다.

2013년 11월 정규앨범 <고독의 의미>를 발매한 이후 줄곧 단독 콘서트만을 진행해 오고 있는 이적은 올해 첫 페스티벌 무대로 현대카드 CITYBREAK 2014를 선택했다. 밴드와 함께 풍성히 꾸밀 것으로 알려진 이적의 폭발적인 라이브 무대가 CITYBREAK 2014에 대한 기대감을 높이고 있다.

Since his debut with ‘Panic’ in 1995, Lee Juck has experimented with a variety of music genres. From emotive ballads like ‘거짓말 거짓말 거짓말(Lie Lie Lie)’ to rock-flavored ‘하늘을 달리다(Run Across the Sky)’ and ‘UFO’, Lee has created multi-faceted sounds that have captured the young and the old. In particular, the 2008 release ‘다행이다(It’s Fortunate)’ has received many accolades to cement his position as a respected singer-songwriter of this generation.

Lee does not limit his music to solo performances and is always open to new collaborations. Panic’s first album <Panic> was produced by Lee himself and member Kim Jin-pyo, and displayed both experimentalism and musical sophistication. This album, with songs like ‘달팽이(Snail) and ‘달팽이(Left-handed)’, even drew social awareness. Their second album is also regarded as one of the most influential music of the 90s. In 1997, Lee formed the group Carnival with Kim Dong-ryul that combined Lee’s experimental sounds with Kim’s classical moods. Their partnership produced much-loved songs like ‘그땐 그랬지(It Was Like That in Those Days)’ and ‘거위의 꿈(The Dream of a Goose)’. Lee has also branched-out to TV programs to create music with Yu Jae-seok for the MBC program MuhanDojeon(Infinite Challenge) and worked as the music director for the sitcom ‘High Kick : Revenge of the Short Legged’.

Since the release of his latest album <고독의 의미(The Meaning of Solitude)> in November 2013, Lee has concentrated on solo performances and CITYBREAK 2014 will be his first festival participation this year. His stage is expected to be filled with band sounds and Lee’s unforgettable live performance.
