[MONEY] MONEY, Hyundai Card Design Exhibition

Hyundai Card presents ‘Money’, a look at the company’s reinvention of the credit card into a meticulously designed object of desirability.
Using unprecedented materials in its production, the card’s design is reminiscent of banknotes and coins, reattaching a sense of value to the exchange of money.


Hyundai Card in the pursuit of monetary evolution
Hyundai Card sees the card as the most advanced form of currency and tries to maintain the value and prudence of a currency note. Discreet design features and the use of metal instead of plastic allude to contemporary coins, while the unique 1mm rounded corners of the Hyundai Card are reminiscent of banknotes. Hyundai Card is showing that exceptional design output can come from a ‘corporate’ of the financial industry least expected to be design-oriented.


Hyundai Card beyond the credit card
Hyundai Card occupies a unique position somewhere between a credit card company and a creative agency by nurturing and placing a strong emphasis on its design department. Hyundai Card Design Lab has engaged in a wide range of projects through design collaboration and design donation as well as self-initiated projects. Previous engagements have included a diversity of kitchenware to taxis, pop-up stores to libraries. In recent years, ‘Designed by Hyundai Card’ has become a brand in itself, symbolising Hyundai Card’s design ethos that emphasises logic and ‘The Origin of Things’.



현대카드의 이번 런던 디자인 전시는 지금까지 국내에서만 공유되었던 현대카드 디자인의 궤적을 처음으로 국제 디자인 사회에 소개하는 자리입니다.
현대카드 디자인랩은 이 전시에서 신용카드가 하나의 진화된 화폐 형태이며 화폐 디자인의 연장이라는 우리의 철학과 신념을 담아, 카드 한 장이 얼마나 집요하고 깊이있는 디자인 대상이 될 수 있는지를 보여줍니다. 또한 그 철학과 접근방식이 다른 모든 디자인 프로젝트를 관통할 때, 브랜드의 영역이 얼마나 확장될 수 있는지도 보여줍니다.


‘MONEY’라는 전시명은 현대카드의 금융회사로서의 속성과 현대카드 플레이트 디자인의 시작점을 직관적으로 전달합니다.
디자인과 금융의 중심지인 런던에서 현대카드는 ‘MONEY’라는 제목의 전시를 통해 한국의 혁신적 금융회사 디자인을 소개합니다.


Hyundai Card’s design exhibition in London was the first opportunity to present Hyundai Card Design’s past footsteps to the international design society. 

Hyundai Card Design Lab showed at this exhibition how credit cards are an evolved form of currency and how a piece of credit card can be a subject of design with tenacity and depth, based on our philosophy and faith that credit card design is an extension of currency design.  We also showed how much a brand’s scope can expand when the philosophy and approach extends to all other design projects.



The title of ‘MONEY’ intuitively presents Hyundai Card’s character as a financial company and the start of Hyundai Card’s plate design.  

Hyundai Card introduces the innovative designs of a financial company through an exhibition titled ‘MONEY’ in London, a world’s center of design and finance.
